Become a Governor
Are you passionate about your community and want to help the children in your local schools access the very best education?
We are looking for people to join our schools’ Academy Governance Committees (AGCs) to work alongside the headteacher to help every child flourish and thrive.
The role of a governor has changed significantly in our multi academy trust. As a maintained school, the role used to have significant legislative responsibility, however, in PDET, we have redefined the role so that governors can focus on championing and celebrating our schools, ensuring that they are at the heart of their communities.
The role is responsible for:
- helping the school to ‘live out’ its vision and values
- building relationships with the local community and church
- promoting wellbeing
- being the local ‘eyes and ears’ for the Trust so each school is in the best position to take advantage of opportunities and respond to need.
In return, you will be part of a team who work collectively and collaboratively to support the school. The work of the AGC is both valued and invaluable.
What is involved?
Importantly, to achieve our vision:
‘For every child, within our Trust, to experience an excellent education and to realise their God-given potential to flourish’
the Trust needs first class governors that support schools to deliver excellent education.
AGCs are accountable to the Trust Board which delegates specific responsibilities to them, as set out in our Scheme of Delegation. (You can find this document as well as ‘The Role of the Academy Governance Committee’ below.) Carrying out such responsibilities requires the collaboration of the Trust Board, the Central Executive Team and local governors.
AGCs meet once every term (6 times a year) either remotely or in person.
