New book launched celebrating the history of Spratton CE Primary School

A special assembly in December marked the launch of a significant new book at Spratton Church of England Primary School. Written by local resident Enid Jarvis, the book titled "Spratton Church of England Primary School 1819-2022," published by Spratton Local History Society, celebrates over two centuries of education in the Northamptonshire village.

Enid Jarvis dedicated a year and a half to meticulously researching and documenting the history of Spratton Primary School. The book not only chronicles the evolution of the school's buildings but also honors the individuals who shaped its journey.

Topics within the book range from early curriculum details to the challenges faced by the school's pioneering headteachers, as documented in their diaries. It also poignantly reflects on the sacrifices made during both World Wars by former students who bravely served their country.

With a collection of photographs capturing key moments from the 20th century, including vibrant May Day celebrations, the book vividly illustrates the school's integral role within the village community.

Enid Jarvis, a resident of Spratton for three decades, expressed her joy in discovering the diverse personalities associated with the school and gathering photographs spanning generations of students.

The Spratton Local History Society generously donated 25 copies of the book to the school library and as educational resources for classrooms.

Rebecca Dunkley, Head of School at Spratton Primary and part of Peterborough Diocese Education Trust, shared, "Enid's book has sparked tremendous inspiration among our students, with some even beginning to write their own stories about our school. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Enid for her dedicated effort in creating this informative and enduring tribute, which will be cherished for years to come."
